Improvising is the essence of camper life. But improvising well is an art: it takes a bit of preparation so that spontaneity doesn't turn into a problem. Here's how.
The beauty of not planning
Compared with tightly scheduled tourism, travelling without a fixed plan has a special magic: you open yourself up to the unexpected, discover places that aren't in the guidebooks, meet people who recommend hidden gems, and experience the trip at your own pace and whim. Improvising sensibly: what's worth having sorted
Spontaneity doesn't mean going in blind. For improvising to work out well, cover the basics:
- Autonomy: this is the most important thing. If you don't know where you'll sleep, you need plenty of power and water to spare so you can stay overnight wherever you fancy without relying on finding services (see calculator).

The balance: neither all plan nor all chance
