Personal hygiene in a camper is one of those things that, when sorted well, you don't even notice, and when sorted badly, annoy you every day. In very few square centimetres you have to organise brushing teeth, showering, products and everyone's hygiene, and make sure nothing falls over while driving. With a few tricks, the bathroom area runs like clockwork. Let's look at them.
Make the most of the bathroom space (or the wash corner)
Whether you have an enclosed bathroom or just a corner with a basin, the trick is verticality and gaps:
- Hanging organisers and toiletry bags that hang up: they use the wall and door.
- Suction hooks and bars to hang the wash bag, towel and brush.
- Cups or holders fixed in place for toothbrushes.
- Small baskets in the gaps to group products together.
Products: few and multi-purpose
In the camper, less is more when it comes to toiletries too:
- Small or refillable formats instead of big bottles.
- Multi-purpose products (a gel that works as both shampoo and body wash) save space.
- Solid bars: solid shampoo and soap take up little space, don't spill and are eco-friendly.
- Just enough of each thing; you can restock at any supermarket.
Nothing should move while driving
As with the rest of the camper, anything not secured ends up on the floor. Fix products in place with baskets, suction hooks or straps, and keep loose items in a closed wash bag while on the move. It's the same philosophy as the rest of your storage.
Hygiene when water is limited
- Wipes and hand sanitiser for when there's no water on hand.
- The "cat wash" with little water and a towel, more effective than it sounds.
