Lake Sanabria, in north-western Zamora, is the largest glacial lake on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most beautiful, least-known corners of Castilla y León. The lake: inland beaches
The great summer draw: the lake has freshwater beaches (Custa Llago, Viquiella, El Folgoso) where you can swim and enjoy the water as you would on the coast, but surrounded by mountains. Hiking and nature
The Lake Sanabria Natural Park offers beautiful mountain routes up to the high glacial lagoons (Laguna de los Peces) and viewpoints overlooking the lake. Mountain nature just a step from the water.

Puebla de Sanabria, one of the most beautiful villages in Spain, with its medieval old town and castle, is the ideal base. And the famous legend of the village of Valverde de Lucerna, submerged beneath the lake, which inspired Unamuno.
